This Safeguarding Policy ("Policy") outlines TutorTech's commitment to protecting the safety and well-being of children using our Services, including our website, learning platform, mobile apps, Marketplace, private microsites, curriculum-aligned class access routes, sports academy education-support access routes, SEND services and related platform features.
This Policy aligns with our Terms of Service, Data Privacy Policy, User Code of Conduct, Marketplace Terms and other relevant policies. By using our Services, you agree to follow this Policy.
1. Our Commitment
TutorTech prioritises creating a safe and secure environment for all users, especially children. We take all reasonable precautions to protect children from harm and promote their online safety.
This commitment applies across all TutorTech services, including one-to-one tutoring, TutorTech-provided Classes, Marketplace content, private microsites, curriculum-aligned school access routes, sports academy education-support access routes, SEND services, communications, learning resources and related platform features.
TutorTech aims to design and operate its services with the safety, privacy and best interests of children in mind.
2. Reporting Concerns
We encourage everyone using our Services to report any concerns about a child's safety immediately. This includes:
- Suspected abuse or neglect of a child
- Inappropriate communication or behaviour towards a child
- Content that exploits, abuses, or endangers children
- Marketplace content that may be unsafe, inappropriate, exploitative, harmful or unsuitable for children;
- communications linked to Marketplace purchases, tutoring services, Classes or private microsites;
- misuse of private school, sports academy, SEND provider or organisation-linked microsites;
- any content, communication or behaviour that may place a Student at risk.
How to Report:
- Email: Report your concern directly to our Safeguarding Officer at safeguarding@tutortech.co.uk
- Contact Form: Use the designated safeguarding reporting form on our website.
- Phone: In urgent cases, you can contact us by phone at +44 (0)7518 536345 (available during business hours).
Where a concern relates to Marketplace content, users should include the content title, listing link, seller name where visible, and a short description of the concern.
Where a concern relates to a private microsite, users should include the relevant school, sports academy, SEND provider or organisation name where appropriate.
3. Our Responsibilities
When a safeguarding concern is reported, we will take the following steps:
- Investigate the report thoroughly in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Take appropriate action, which may include:
- Contacting the relevant authorities (e.g., child protection services).
- Disabling the account of the suspected abuser.
- Providing support and resources to the child and their family (if applicable).
- Removing, restricting or disabling access to unsafe or inappropriate Marketplace content.
- Suspending or restricting a Tutor, Marketplace seller, Customer, Student or other user account.
- Restricting access to private microsites where misuse or safeguarding risk is identified.
- Contacting a school, sports academy, SEND provider, Parent/Guardian, specialist, authority or other appropriate party where necessary and lawful.
TutorTech may take immediate protective action where we reasonably believe there may be a safeguarding risk, even before an investigation is complete.
4. Working Together for Safeguarding Purposes
TutorTech may cooperate with Parents/Guardians, schools, sports academies, SEND providers, third-party SEND specialists, child protection agencies, law enforcement, regulators or other appropriate organisations where necessary to protect Students and support safe learning.
Any cooperation with a school, sports academy, SEND provider or similar organisation is for safeguarding, educational alignment, access or support purposes only, unless TutorTech expressly agrees otherwise in writing.
Nothing in this Policy creates a legal partnership, commercial partnership, joint venture, agency relationship, employment relationship or revenue-sharing arrangement between TutorTech and any school, sports academy, SEND provider or other organisation.
5. Parent/Guardian Responsibilities
Parents and guardians who allow their children to use our Services are responsible for:
- Supervising their child's online activity.
- Educating their child about online safety practices.
- Discussing appropriate online behaviour with their child.
- Reviewing any consent choices relating to student-specific progress sharing with schools, sports academies, SEND providers or similar organisations.
- Ensuring that private microsite links are used appropriately and not shared publicly unless authorised.
- Reporting concerns relating to Tutors, Students, Marketplace content, Classes, private microsites or SEND support as soon as possible.
6. Tutor Responsibilities
Tutors are responsible for complying with this Safeguarding Policy as a condition of access to the Tutortech platform. These obligations apply regardless of whether the Tutor operates as an independent contractor, sole trader, or business.
Tutors using our platform have an additional responsibility to:
- Be aware of the signs of child abuse and neglect.
- Report any suspected child abuse or neglect immediately.
- Maintain a professional and appropriate manner when interacting with children.
- Avoid any behaviour that could be construed as grooming or exploitation.
Tutors who create, upload, list or sell Marketplace content must ensure that the content is suitable for the intended age group, learning purpose and audience.
Tutors must not upload Marketplace content that is unsafe, inappropriate, exploitative, discriminatory, harmful, abusive or likely to place a child at risk.
Tutors must cooperate with TutorTech where a safeguarding concern, content concern, parent complaint or platform investigation arises.
6.1 Marketplace content and safeguarding
Tutors and other permitted users must ensure that Marketplace content is suitable for the intended age group and learning purpose.
Marketplace content must not include material that is unsafe, exploitative, inappropriate, discriminatory, harmful, abusive or likely to place a child at risk.
Users must report any Marketplace content that raises safeguarding concerns using the reporting channels set out in this Policy.
TutorTech may remove, suspend, restrict or disable Marketplace content where safeguarding concerns arise. TutorTech may also suspend or restrict Marketplace seller access where necessary to protect users or maintain platform safety.
6.2 School, sports academy and SEND microsites
TutorTech may provide access to private microsites for schools, sports academies, SEND providers or similar organisations.
These microsites are provided as private access routes for Students and Parents/Guardians. Unless TutorTech expressly agrees otherwise in writing, the relevant school, sports academy, SEND provider or organisation does not own the microsite, does not pay TutorTech for the services, does not act as TutorTech’s commercial partner, and does not become a party to the contract between TutorTech and the Customer or Parent/Guardian.
Where applicable:
- schools may share curriculum, topic or progress information so TutorTech can align Classes to school learning priorities;
- sports academies may share general educational requirements or qualification expectations so TutorTech can guide appropriate learning support;
- SEND services may be delivered by TutorTech’s internal qualified SEND expertise or by vetted third-party SEND specialists through the platform.
All users of these microsites remain subject to this Safeguarding Policy.
TutorTech may provide anonymised or aggregated progress summaries to the relevant organisation. Student-specific progress information will only be shared where appropriate Parent/Guardian consent has been obtained or where another lawful basis applies.
Private microsite links should not be shared publicly unless TutorTech or the relevant organisation has authorised public sharing.
6.3 SEND services and specialists
Where TutorTech provides SEND-related services, support may be delivered by TutorTech’s internal qualified SEND expertise or by vetted third-party SEND specialists through the platform.
SEND-related information may be sensitive and must be handled with particular care. Users must not share SEND-related information about a Student unless they have authority to do so and the sharing is necessary for the relevant service.
Third-party SEND specialists must comply with TutorTech safeguarding expectations, relevant professional standards, confidentiality obligations and any applicable platform policies or agreements.
7. Related policies and data privacy
This Safeguarding Policy works together with TutorTech’s User Code of Conduct, Data Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, Marketplace Terms, Copyright / IP Policy and other applicable policies.
The User Code of Conduct outlines expected user behaviour, including respectful interactions, content restrictions, Marketplace behaviour and appropriate use of private microsites.
The Data Privacy Policy explains how TutorTech collects, uses, shares and protects personal data, including children’s data, lesson data, Marketplace data and progress information linked to private microsites.
8. Continuous Improvement
We are committed to continuously improving our safeguarding measures. We will regularly review and update this Policy to reflect changes in the online environment and best practices in child protection.
TutorTech may review safeguarding procedures as services evolve, including changes to the Marketplace, private microsites, SEND services, Tutor onboarding, content review processes, reporting features and platform functionality.
9. Reporting to authorities and appropriate organisations
TutorTech will report suspected child abuse, neglect, exploitation or serious safeguarding concerns to the relevant authorities where required or appropriate.
Where necessary and lawful, TutorTech may also share relevant safeguarding information with Parents/Guardians, schools, sports academies, SEND providers, child protection agencies, law enforcement, regulators, payment providers, platform providers or other appropriate organisations.
TutorTech will aim to share only the information reasonably necessary for the safeguarding purpose.
10. Conclusion
By working together, we can create a safe and secure learning environment for children on TutorTech.
All users are expected to act responsibly, report concerns promptly and follow this Policy when using TutorTech’s tutoring services, Classes, Marketplace, private microsites, SEND services and related platform features.
