TutorTech Safeguarding Policy

Keeping children safe is central to how TutorTech operates.

This Policy explains the standards we expect from everyone using TutorTech and what to do if you are worried about a child's safety.

It applies across one-to-one tutoring, TutorTech Classes, Courses, Channels, live Q&A, comments, Resources, private microsites and related communications.

1. Our safeguarding principles

The following principles apply across TutorTech:

  • ·       The welfare and best interests of the child come first.
  • ·       Children must be treated with dignity, respect and appropriate professional boundaries.
  • ·       Communication involving children should stay within TutorTech-approved channels.
  • ·       Safeguarding concerns should be reported promptly and shared only with people who need the information.
  • ·       TutorTech may restrict or suspend access immediately where this is needed to protect a child or preserve an investigation.

2. Who can teach or create child-facing content

Tutors and Educator Creators must complete the identity, qualification, safeguarding training and background or child-protection checks TutorTech requires for their activity and location.

Course or Channel Creator access may be suspended if a required check or training item expires or if a suitability concern arises.

A non-UK police or safeguarding check must not be described as a UK DBS check unless the person actually holds the relevant DBS certificate.

3. Professional boundaries

Adults using TutorTech must maintain clear and appropriate boundaries with children.

In particular:

  • ·       Do not ask for or share personal phone numbers, private email addresses or social-media details with a child unless TutorTech has expressly authorised a safeguarded process.
  • ·       Do not arrange private off-platform meetings or tutoring with a child introduced through TutorTech.
  • ·       Do not send sexual, romantic, humiliating, threatening, discriminatory or otherwise inappropriate content.
  • ·       Do not ask a child to keep communications or relationships secret.
  • ·       Do not independently record, photograph or screenshot a child, Class, Q&A or private communication unless an approved TutorTech feature is being used and the required notices or permissions are in place.
  • ·       Do not use a child's image, voice, work or story for marketing without the required TutorTech approval and lawful permission.

4. Courses, Channels, Q&A and comments

Course and Channel content must be suitable for the intended age group and must not create avoidable safeguarding risk.

Where live Q&A, comments or community functions involve children:

  • ·       communication must stay within TutorTech-approved, moderated or auditable channels;
  • ·       Educators must not move a child's conversation to personal messaging or social media;
  • ·       children should be discouraged from posting surnames, home addresses, school details, contact details or other unnecessary identifying information;
  • ·       questions suggesting abuse, self-harm, exploitation or immediate danger must be escalated through the safeguarding route rather than treated as ordinary educational Q&A;
  • ·       TutorTech may close comments, mute or remove users, unpublish content or suspend a Channel while a safeguarding concern is assessed.

5. What Parents and Guardians can do

Parents and Guardians play an important role in helping children use TutorTech safely.

  • ·       Use an adult Customer account for purchases and subscriptions involving a child.
  • ·       Give us accurate Student age and any relevant support information.
  • ·       Help the child understand safe online behaviour and the limits of Q&A or community features.
  • ·       Do not encourage off-platform private contact with Tutors or Educators.
  • ·       Report concerns promptly.

6. Reporting a safeguarding concern

If you believe a child is at immediate risk of serious harm, contact the appropriate emergency or statutory service as well as TutorTech where it is safe to do so.

For TutorTech safeguarding concerns, email safeguarding@tutortech.co.uk.

Please give us only the information needed to explain the concern. Do not investigate the matter yourself or question a child beyond what is necessary to keep them safe and report what you know.

7. What TutorTech may do

Depending on the concern, TutorTech may:

  • ·       preserve relevant records;
  • ·       restrict an account, feature or communication route;
  • ·       contact a Parent/Guardian or request further information;
  • ·       consult safeguarding professionals;
  • ·       refer the matter to statutory authorities;
  • ·       take other proportionate steps needed to protect a child or another user.

Safeguarding information is shared only where there is a lawful reason and on a need-to-know basis.

8. Educational content and sensitive subjects

Educational content must not exploit children, encourage dangerous behaviour, normalise abuse or present inappropriate sexual or violent material.

Content that deals with mental health, relationships, online safety or other sensitive topics should be educational, age-appropriate and within the Educator's competence. TutorTech may require changes, warnings or removal where appropriate.

9. Privacy, confidentiality and keeping this Policy up to date

We handle safeguarding information with particular care and share it only where necessary and lawful to protect a child. See our Data Privacy Policy for our wider approach to personal information. We review this Policy as TutorTech and its child-facing features develop.
